James Silver "suicide", 1979

James Silver apparently shot himself in the head, wrapped himself in sheets, buried himself under the floor, then partially burned himself. His death was ruled by officials as suicide.
His family has recently convinced local authorities to conduct a second autopsy. David Lindloff, the Prosecutor Office's investigator, offered reasoning for the inaccuracy of the first investigation: Lindloff said authorities should have interviewed more family members...
There are rumors among the community of an affair between Mrs. Silver and a sheriff's deputy, giving credence to a familiar theme of officials covering for each other in a variety of cases in Preble County.
